GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport church opened the doors of their new building Sunday.

Greater Christian Worship Center moved from their old location on Van Buren Street, which held about 100 people, to the new Landon Road location that seats double that amount.

As a symbolic gesture, the congregation was transported from their old building to the new one.

Senior pastor Cora Walker said it was important for them to mark this occasion, and bless the new building they've been blessed with.

"We've been saving ever since we were in the small building," said Walker. "We've been trying to save, we knew we needed a larger building so we outgrew that building and were saying the Lord was able to bless us with some helpful people to be able to bless us."

Pastor Walker said it took about five years just to get the building permit, and it took a year and a half to build the church.
