On the last weekend before Tuesday’s general election, candidates for Biloxi mayor continue working the crowds for votes.

Their campaigning styles are as different as the candidates themselves. Democrat Sugar Stallings knows she has work to do, and has her special pen to help.

“I feel that everybody who is anybody should have a real official pen like this,” Stallings said with a laugh and flashing the fluffy pen. “This will get you to city hall every time.”

Not as well-known as her opponent, she’s aggressively trying to meet a big challenge.

“I think a lot of goals you set for yourself are tough,” she said. “If they were easy, they wouldn’t call them goals. They’d call them easy targets.”

The attorney and civic activist is campaigning on issues such as finishing the infrastructure project, public safety and more.

“We have to bring in more industry and robust jobs. A lot of people are under employed or unemployed, so we have to think about the future of our citizens how they’re able to provide for their family and how they are able to move forward. I want to move Biloxi forward not back," said Stallings.

Incumbent Mayor FoFo Gilich, looking for his first full term as Biloxi Mayor, enjoys working in his own backyard - Point Cadet.

“This is family,” Gilich said. “These are mostly families and again, product of Point Cadet.”

Church, as well as the Fais Do Do, is a good place to make his point.

“I think I can make a difference we will make a difference meet the challenges that are certainly facing us day by day,” Gilich said. “And I could tell you there are challenges that face me as mayor day by day and of course I’ve enjoyed meeting those challenges.”

He’s not taking a new term for granted.

“We are not and we’re covering all the bases we need to in regard to getting the word out to ask the people in Biloxi to invest their vote in me again.”
