St. Michael Church, also known as the Fisherman's Church, is celebrating a milestone and getting for the upcoming Blessing of the Fleet.

For 100 years, St. Michael Church in east Biloxi has been a big part of spiritual life for Catholics, particularly in the seafood industry in Biloxi. Historic photographs are set up in the foyer outside of the sanctuary telling the story of the relationship between the church and the community.

The circular structure was built in the 1960's. The church has survived Hurricanes Camille and Katrina; as well as economic trials and tribulations. The stories of survival, combined with St. Michael's unique architectural design, inspire people.

"The height. It goes up 75 or 80 feet. You have a sense of being raised up into the arms of a loving, caring merciful God. People come in with their stories. Some are joyous, and some are difficult," said Father Gregory Barras.

The shrimp festival is Saturday, with the blessing set for Sunday.
