BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

With the unofficial start of summer vacation in the books, the last thing many people are thinking about is the upcoming school year.

But, leaders of a Coast nonprofit are doing just that.

The Pink Lotus Project is hosting its second annual Champagne and Chandeliers fundraiser on Aug. 19. Beginning at 8 p.m., doors of the Biloxi Visitors Center will open for guests to enjoy music, a silent auction, and an open bar.

Proceeds from the event will go toward Pink Lotus' mission of providing education programs throughout South Mississippi.

In addition to raising money, the event will also highlight agents of change in the Gulf Coast community. More than a dozen women have been nominated for the 2017 PowHER Award, including Dr. Carla Evers, Dr. Kinyatta Bennett, and WLOX News Now's very own Caray Grace.
