GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

The Gulfport police officer who hit and killed a pedestrian on January 19 will not face any criminal charges.

The Grand Jury reviewed the case and announced on Wednesday that "it finds that no criminal conduct was involved in this matter by the Gulfport Police Department."

Edgar Lambert, 54, was killed as he crossed Highway 49 in Gulfport. Although it is not known how fast the officer was driving, witnesses say the cruiser was not using flashing lights or a siren.

Editor's Note: Other media outlets have released the name of the officer involved. But it is the policy of WLOX not to report the name of any individual cleared by a Grand Jury of wrongdoing.
