After Further Review: Saints schedule observations

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Fierce First Quarter
The first thing that pops out of the Saints schedule is the first quarter of the season. It's brutal. The Saints will play three out of four on the road with one of those being a trip to London. Their only home game in that stretch is on a short week against the defending Super Bowl champs. The Saints have never been able to overcome slow starts to the season under Sean Payton. They'll have their work cut out for them this year.

Avoiding the Cold
The only real cold weather threat is Buffalo on Nov. 12. The Saints caught a break by visiting Green Bay in October during week seven.

Midweek Travel
The Saints will play their Thursday night game in Atlanta in week 14. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but if I'm the Saints, I'm questioning why they are playing on the road on a Thursday for the sixth time in seven years.

Other Observations
The Saints will play three straight NFC North opponents in weeks 6, 7 and 8. The Saints will played the Falcons two times in three weeks in December.
With a preseason game against the Chargers and a week 12 matchup against the Rams, the Saints will make two trips to Los Angeles this year.
