HOBOKEN, NJ (WPIX/CNN) - Hot from the oven, Tony Baloney’s serves up taco pizza - once a secret menu item - on its formerly under-the-radar Taco Tuesday.

“I like it because it has two of the best things - tacos and pizza combined,” said fan Rebecca Appuliese. She was not the original taco pizza customer. Tony Baloney's owner Michael Hauke remembers how this Frankenstein of foods came about.

A bunch of kids came in one night, he said, “and were like, ‘Yo, dude. Make us some tacos.’

"I said, ‘Dude, this is Tony Baloney's. We do pizza and subs.’”

The kids continued, telling him, “‘Don’t care, man. Taco Tuesday, bro!"

They begged Hauke for tacos, but instead he gave them a combination of  buffalo chicken, Mezcal-marinated sirloin steak and smoked bacon on garlic bread with fresh mozzarella. That’s not the set recipe.

“We like to mix it up,” Hauke said.

News of the crazy concoction spread by word of mouth, then online, and now hundreds of people line up for Taco Tuesday.

“We have 286 on pre-order last I checked,” Hauke said on a recent Tuesday. “Thirty, 40 waiting for slices. Maybe 360 pies by the end of the day.”

There are three tacos on each slice, and who knows how many calories.

“I think it’s worth it, except we have to go to the gym tomorrow,” said a first-time customer from the Bronx. “It’s worth it. One day won’t kill you.”

Taco pizza at Tony Baloney’s is not cheap - $10 for a slice, and $80 per pie.

And there’s a technique to eating it. Fans say you’re supposed to lift it up, fold it and enjoy.
