(RNN) - A Dutch company says its flying cars will be available in late 2018 for $400,000 to $600,000.

PAL-V is accepting pre-orders for a three-wheel car/gyroplane it is billing as "the first certified commercial flying car ever."

The company says its Personal Air and Land Vehicle can go from 0 to 60 mph in about nine seconds and drive at up to 100 mph. It transforms from driving mode to flying mode in 10 minutes.

After a takeoff roll of 600 feet, the vehicle can fly at 112 mph and reach 11,500 feet.

On a full tank, it can drive 817 miles at 31 mpg and fly 310 miles.

Both the base model, the Liberty, and the high-end Pioneer come with introductory training lessons.

The Pioneer comes with at-home training, while purchasers of the Liberty are offered training at the company's flying car school in Utah.

The extra $200,000 buys fancy detailing, power heating and an electronic flight instrument display as opposed to an electromechanical one.

Operators must have both a driver's license and a pilot's license.

Touting the vehicle's safety, the company said if an engine fails the gyroplane can land in an area the size of a tennis court.

Contrary to fixed-wing airplanes, the gyroplane cannot stall and cross wind landings are easier.
