HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A passenger involved in a high speed chase is in custody Thursday afternoon, but the driver remains on the run.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the D'Iberville Police Department initially attempted to stop the vehicle because the two people inside were suspects in a D'Iberville shoplifting case.

After failing to stop, the the male driver led police on a chase that ended near Lorraine and Gould. At that point, the female passenger was taken into custody and the driver ran away.

The driver was arrested shortly after. Police have not yet released the identities of either person.

MHP, Gulfport Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff's Office, and the Biloxi Police Department all assisted with the search.
