JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Sheriff Mike Ezell is warning residents about a phone scam making the rounds in Jackson County.
Here's what happens: A man calls a county resident and says he's from the sheriff's department. He warns that a court date was missed and that the person now owes fines, which can be paid over the phone. He's also calling from, what appears to be, a cell phone.
Sheriff Ezell wants everyone to know the sheriff's department will never conduct this type of business over the phone. If you've received a call from this individual, or have any information as to who this may be, contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Department at (228) 769-3063.
