BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi continued their citywide Easter extravaganza with an Easter egg hunt at Hiller park on Saturday. Hundreds of families came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and holiday festivities.
It was the city's second Easter egg hunt of the year and brought out large crowds of eager little kids, which led to lots of happy parents and happy city officials.
"We're happy that it's grown this much," said Biloxi councilwoman Dixie Newman. "People are starting to see what we're offering and so now for the city of Biloxi, this is the main Easter egg hunt now."
Since getting elected in 2013, Newman has made Hiller Park her pet project -- working tirelessly toward beautifying the park.
"It looks like a good turnout," she said. "I was kind of worried about the spring break, if no one would come out, and it looks like a good turnout."
The Easter egg hunt was broken up into different age groups, with the smallest hunters getting a little help from their parents.
"I think it's a wonderful, wonderful idea," said Quwina Grimes of Saucier. "It gives the chance for the kids to come out and have a wonderful time, and it's beautiful weather. It's gorgeous."
In between hunting for eggs, the kids were able to take pictures with the Easter bunny or enjoy the bouncy houses, all free of charge thanks to the city's parks and recreation department.
"It was fantastic for the kids," said Robert Sledge. "I brought my kids out here today to support it, and it was a great event for the kids. I need more people to come out next year and support it."
The fun-filled event left the children with not only a basket full of goodies, but lots of joy as well.
"It's fun to be here and I had a great time," said Tamilya.
The city of Biloxi will sponsor one more Easter Egg hunt next week.It will be their special needs Easter Egg hunt at the town green.
