JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Bond has been set for the man accused of ramming patrol vehicles during a low-speed chase with Jackson County Sheriff's deputies early Monday morning.
Michael Salter is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and malicious mischief. He is also charged with eluding and resisting arrest, which are misdemeanors. Bond was set at $40,000.
Deputy Chief John Ledbetter said the chase started after someone reported a suspicious vehicle at a gas station in St. Martin. Responding deputies tried to make contact with Salter, but he reportedly drove away when they approached him.
The chase eventually ended up back at the gas station where it started, and that's where Ledbetter said Salter rammed two patrol vehicles with his truck. A deputy reportedly fired two shots at Salter's truck to stop him from driving off again.
Ledbetter said Salter was not shot, but he was injured during the arrest. No deputies were injured in the incident.
