Most South Mississippi school districts announce delays

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Due to the threat of severe weather, some area schools are beginning to delay classes for April 3. 

The following schools have announced delays/closures:

  • Bay Waveland School District - delayed until 9 a.m.
  • Biloxi School District delayed by 2 hours
  • George County School District - 9:30 a.m. start; school buses begin routes at 8:30 a.m.
  • Gulfport School District delayed by 2 hours
  • Harrison County School District - delayed by 2 1/2 hours
  • Jackson County School District delayed by 3 hours
  • Long Beach School District delayed until 10 a.m.
  • All MGCCC campuses delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Ocean Springs School District delayed by 2 hours
  • Pass Christian School District - delayed by 2 hours
  • Pearl River Community College - delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Poplarville School District - delayed by two hours
  • Stone County School District- delayed until 10 a.m.
  • St. Patrick High School, Fatima Elementary, Nativity Elementary & St. James Elementary delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Hope Academy delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Cedar Lake Christian Academy delayed until 10:30 a.m.
  • Temple Christian Academy delayed until 10:30 a.m.
  • Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary delayed until 10:30 a.m.
  • Saint Stanislaus High School, Our Lady Academy, and Holy Trinity Catholic School delayed until 9 a.m.
  • Pearl River County School District is operating on normal schedule, but students arriving late will be excused until 10 a.m.
  • CDI Head Start in Gulfport delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Mississippi Children's Home Services CARES School delayed until 10 a.m.

WLOX News Now will continue to update this story as information becomes available. 

The Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport has also delayed reporting for personnel until 9 a.m. Keesler Air Force Base has also delayed reporting by two hours.

    The ladies of Phi Mu Sorority on the University of Southern Miss campus hosted a dance for 92-year-old War World II Navy veteran Paul Sonnier. Jessica Moreau, a social work intern at SouthernCare Hospice Services, says she would often visit with Sonnier. "He'd always ask me if I wanted to go to Ropers, the local bar," says Moreau.
