GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A mistrial was declared Wednesday in the case of the man accused of killing Brian Bachtel in 2014.
According to District Attorney Joel Smith, Stephen Hagin invoked a court rule on the first day of his trial, which prevented his wife from testifying as a witness.
On Wednesday, there was reference to hearsay comments by Hagin's wife to law enforcement. Because the comments were released, Circuit Court Judge Lisa Dodson declared a mistrial and ordered that the case be rescheduled during the next term of court.
Hagin is accused of killing Bachtel and dumping his body behind a Pass Christian home.
