JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - After seven years of work, the final phase of a major construction project on Hwy 611 in Jackson County is now complete.
The project involved widening Highway 611 to five lanes from Old Mobile Highway to the end of the route near the Chevron Refinery. Railroad crossings had to be replaced, and several intersections were relocated and reconstructed.
"We are pleased to be finished with this project which will better serve this industrial corridor in Jackson County," said Construction Engineer Gabe Faggard, who provided oversight to this project since phase one began in 2010.
The Mississippi Development Authority awarded funds to Jackson County to build the two-phase project. Phase one involved the construction of an interchange at Highway 90.
"MDOT is proud of the coordination between local and state partners to bring about this important interchange project," Transportation Commissioner Tom King said.
