PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - The folks at Bozo's Grocery and Grill have received plenty of accolades over the years for their po-boys and boiled crawfish. But now the Pascagoula landmark is being recognized by business leaders with the Small Business Administration's 2017 Generational Family-Owned Business of the Year award.
Three generations have kept the business thriving for 61 years. Owner Keith Delcambre credits a lot of hard work and dedicated employees.
"Just getting up every morning, coming to work. Treat customers the way I want to be treated when I go somewhere. And good employees," Delcambre said.
Being named the best is no surprise to longtime customers like Tony Mattos.
"It's an icon. It's been here forever and it's got a great name for itself and it's a proven place," Mattos gushed. "It's family oriented business and it's great for everyone."
Even though Bozo's has been around for six decades, the crew keeps up with the times using social media.
"Just to run a special, I can get my guys or my people to put it on their Facebook, and all of a sudden, it just blows up," Delcambre explained.
He added that all that business means a new generation will likely keep the tradition going.
"I have kids that may be able to take it to the next level. I would hope that they would want to do that."
When I asked Delcambre what he thought about when he first learned that his business was named the best small family-operated business in the state, he thought about the past and it meant a great deal.
"First thing I thought about was my grandfather, and my dad, and my grandmother. My mom is still alive so we were able to share that together."
Bozo's employs 30 people, many of whom have worked there for decades. You can find them at 2012 Ingalls Ave. in Pascagoula. They're open daily from 8am to 8pm.
