(RNN) - Melissa Dohme Hill survived a horrific stabbing attack from her ex-boyfriend when she was only 20 years old.

He stabbed her 32 times and left her bleeding on the side of the road, CNN reported.

One of the first first-responders who arrived on the scene was Cameron Hill, who helped save her life.

She reconnected with Cameron Hill during a luncheon in her honor almost a year after the attack. They started dating, and at a 2015 Tampa Bay Rays game where she was throwing out the first pitch, he surprised her with a proposal.

On March 4, the two married.

Melissa Dohme Hill now works at Hands Across the Bay as an advocate drawing attention to domestic violence.
