GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Some Harrison County 7th graders are putting their classroom lessons to work at the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

Photography and design students from West Wortham Middle School are helping out the shelter by taking photos of furry residents.

The students will use their best photographs, design posters, and advertising tactics to help promote the adoption of the shelter animals.

"So far the animals have been really, really cute, and they've been cooperative with us," said student Nathan Carlson.

According to teacher Tanya Voorhees, the scholars are learning how advertising and photography work together to help get the animals adopted.

In addition to having the pups and cats to strike a pose, the kids are also making homemade treats for them.
