GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Gulfport Memorial Hospital hosted several guests on a behind the scenes tour this morning into some of the life-saving services and procedures that take place.

There's a lot that happens within the walls of Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. A lot of the time, the work that happens saves lives.

When a life is at stake, mere seconds can make a big difference. That was the message being presented by officials at this year's executive impact tour.

Area leaders were taken through the steps of a patient suffering from a cardiovascular emergency, including ambulance transport, ER, and the cath lab.

The tour really hit home for this year's Gulf Coast Heart Walk Chairman, Butch Oustalet.

Memorial's emergency department saw more than 74,000 patients last year alone. That's an average of more than 200 a day.

One of the details hospital staff stressed was that if you find yourself in a medical emergency, it's always best to call 911 and request an ambulance.
