Gulfport students learn about career opportunities

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Central Middle School in Gulfport hosted a career fair Thursday. Sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students entered the gym excited to learn about career opportunities in South Mississippi.

These students graduate from college sometime after 2025. So they still have time to chart which career path they may follow.

WLOX had a booth at the career day event. So did the Gulfport Fire Department, Navigator Credit Union and a dozen other local businesses.

Bayou View Elementary also held its career day event Thursday. That's where seven-year-old Zaidyn posed for a picture with Gulfport Police Chief Papania and Officer Alves.

Zaidyn's mom tells us her son has talked about wanting to be a police officer since he first started speaking. And that he's very aware of just how hard the job could be.

"He even won an art contest when he was younger for a MS scholarship for his drawing of what he wanted to be when he grew up: a police officer," his mom said proudly.

Good luck to all the students taking part in Tuesday's career fairs. It won't be long before you're the ones running this country, and we know we'll be in good hands.
