Mississippi State Heads To Regional Title Game In Columbus

(Columbus, Ohio-AP) -- Matthew Brinson drove in all of Mississippi State's runs with a pair of homers as the Bulldogs beat Delaware 4-to-3 today. With the win -- top-seeded Mississippi State (38-22) advances to tomorrow's N-C-A-A regional championship at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Third-seeded Delaware (45-14) will meet Kent State -- a 9-to-8 winner over host Ohio State in the losers' bracket final -- in this evening's losers' bracket final. Delaware starter Vic Sage (11-3) picked up the win with one-and-a-third innings of relief in the Blue Hens' 5-to-4 first-round win in 10 innings over Ohio State on Friday night. He then came back to go the distance -- throwing 137 pitches -- against Mississippi State. Sage's only mistakes came against Brinson. The 6-foot-5 freshman led off the second inning with a solo shot that tied the score at 1-1. In the sixth -- Brinson hit a 3-1 pitch just inside the right-field foul pole for his fifth homer of the season. Delaware took a 1-0 lead on Andrew Salvo's leadoff homer in the first and added single runs in the third and seventh. Delaware threatened again in the eighth. With two out, Teddy Puitz and Doug Eitelman singled, but Mississippi State reliever Josh Wooten got Salvo to ground out to second.
