Gulfport High School Athletic Director Bryan Caldwell announced today that head girls basketball coach Donny Fuller has resigned after 8 seasons.
He spent 23 of his 32 years of coaching in the high school ranks at Warren Central, 1 year at Philadelphia and the last 8 at Gulfport. His overall record was 518 wins and 268 defeats. He posted a 126-106 record at Gulfport High. He also spent five years at Ole Miss.
Fuller said, "After much thought and prayer, I have decided to step down as head girls basketball coach at Gulfport High. On a personal level, this has been very trying years with the death of my mother and illness of my father. At this stage of my career, I don't feel like I can give our girls the time and energy they deserve. I look forward to remaining a part of the Athletic Department as Assistant Athletic Director."
Fuller was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014.
Athletic Director Bryan Caldwell said, "We greatly appreciate everything Coach Fuller has done for Lady Admirals Basketball during the past 8 years. He leaves the program on solid ground and in a position to do great things. I look forward to him continuing as important part of the Gulfport Athletic Department."
The search for a new girls coach will begin immediately.
