JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Hurley man riding a bicycle was killed early Tuesday morning when he was hit by a vehicle driving on Hwy. 613.
Jackson County Deputy Coroner Jason Moody said the crash happened just after midnight in front of the Dixie Depot just south of Hwy. 614. He said the collision appears to be a tragic accident caused by dense fog and darkness.
Moody said 55-year-old Robert Leslie Smith was the man killed. The driver who hit him reportedly stayed on scene and talked to Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers.
MHP spokesman Chase Elkins said no charges against the driver are pending at this time. Moody said toxicology tests will be involved in the ongoing investigation.
