MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

If you owe fines in Moss Point, the city is offering an opportunity for you to make good on your debts without fear of being arrested.

The Amnesty Period begins March 27 and runs through May 1, 2017. During that time, anyone who owes old municipal court fines can go to the police department and pay the fine or reestablish a payment plan. You must be prepared to pay at least half of your outstanding balance.

Note that anyone who owes money to the utility department, or has been fined for having an illegal water hookup is not eligible for this amnesty/payment plan deal. This is only for people with municipal court fines.

For more information, visit the Moss Point Police Department between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, or call City Court at (228) 474-3644 or (228) 474-3641.

Officials say once the amnesty period is complete, the police department will ramp up efforts to serve warrants.
