HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An early morning trip across the coast for a good cause is wrapping up for dozens of runners. The second annual One Rotary One Coast event got Rotarians and coast leaders out of bed before the sun came up.
They gathered together in Biloxi and Pass Christian. Each group walked more than 13 miles to meet in the middle at Jones Park.
Each year, the event benefits a local organization in need of funds. That organization this year was CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, which helps with extreme cases of child abuse and neglect.
"We like to do something that's really on top of the news in most cases. We heard about CASA. Last year was an effort to feed the hungry. I wanted to make sure everyone had something to eat, especially through the holiday and through the summer as well. But, CASA is a year-round effort to help children. When we found out about the need for additional funding to help children, that's when we stepped up," said Rotarian, Ron Roland.
The effort has already raised more than $13,000 for CASA.
