PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) - Police are investigating the headmaster of an unaccredited school for allegedly forging diplomas.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2mxrzkx ) that the head of Christian Academy in Picayune, Mississippi, admitted in a letter to parents that she forged the signature of the Peal River County superintended on the diplomas. Police are determining whether to bring criminal charges. District Attorney Hal Kittrell says she could be forgery or false pretense.

The Sun Herald reports that the head of the school, Candice Downey, told parents the school was accredited, though the Mississippi Department of Education has no record of it.

Downey's LinkedIn page claims that she has a doctorate from the University of New Orleans. However, an official at the university says there are no records of her at the school.
