23-year sentence for man in drug and gun case

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a New Orleans man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison in a drug and firearms case. His wife drew four years of probation in that case.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane Evans said in a Wednesday news release that 49-year-old Gross Williams had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

His wife, 47-year-old Kathleen Williams, was placed on probation after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice. She had destroyed a cellphone that was used in her husband's drug activity.

Evans said court documents identify Gross Williams as a large-scale narcotics dealer who laundered drug money through a used car business in Arabi.

They were sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt.
