Calcasieu Parish deputy fired for bringing drugs to jail

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputy has been arrested and fired for bringing contraband into the parish prison.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Kim Myers says 26-year-old Timothy Walls, of Lake Charles, was arrested Monday on charges of introducing contraband into a penal institution, conspiracy to introduce contraband into a correctional facility and malfeasance in office. Bond was set at $125,000.

The American Press ( ) reports Walls is accused of bringing three to six packs of synthetic marijuana along with tobacco into the Calcasieu Correctional Center since December. Myers says detectives discovered one incident where Walls had the contraband delivered to him at the prison while he was on duty.

Myers said Walls was terminated after his arrest. He had served the department for about five years.
