The last time an Ole Miss baseball team played a game on the Mississippi Gulf Coast was 106 years ago. Finally, the Rebels displayed their talents in South Mississippi before 3,064 fans at MGM Park in Biloxi.
Ole Miss (12-5) pounded out 10 hits to secure a 5-0 win over the Nicholls State Colonels (9-7) from Thibodeaux, Louisiana.
Rebels freshman pitcher Ryan Rolison was outstanding. On Monday Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco told WLOX that Rolison, a native of Jackson, Tennessee was looking forward to his pitching assignment in Biloxi. He responded in a big way. In six innings, Rolison gave up 4 hits, walked a batter and piled up 7 strikeouts to post the victory.
Connor Green, Houston Roth and Sean Johnson each pitched a scoreless inning and they didn't give up a hit. Nicholls State was limited to 4 hits on the night.
Second baseman Tate Blackman provided a powerful punch at the plate. He was 2-for-4 with 3 runs batted in. He provided the first runs of the game on a two run blast over the left field wall that plated Will Golsan who had singled. Colby Bortles had an RBI as did designated hitter Thomas Dillard. Dillard was 2-for-3.
