Coast Student Uses His Green Thumb At School

An eighth-grader at Pass Christian Middle School thought the outside of his classroom, looked a little dull. So an idea "bloomed" in his mind.

He decided to plant a garden. Brian Garriga's garden is filled with beautiful flowers, fruits and vegetables like tomatos and squash.

Brian used his own money to buy the plants. He also does the weeding and watering. Brian left school for the summer this week, but his garden will be around for others to enjoy.

"The teachers like it, they think it looks good, and they think we should plant more gardens in the school," Brian said.

Over the summer break, Brian plans to return to the school to take care of the garden. By the way, he wants to be a landscaper when he grows up.
