SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - This week's horrific train bus accident in downtown Biloxi that claimed lives and injured so many is painful for us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims.
Our praise goes to the people who responded and helped; including civilians and 1st responders; in Biloxi and nearby communities and to every hospital on the coast whose staffs are still treating those who are hurting.
As we mourn the losses, we must also pose questions and get answers that will hopefully help prevent this from happening again. While we are sensitive to the fact that the bus driver is among the injured, it appears the mistake that led to this disaster was attempting to cross at a railroad crossing that was marked for low clearance and the bus bottomed out. We will continue to ask questions about driver's history and safety record.
While the grade or steepness of the crossing may be legal, we will ask what changes if any, cities may make to improve safety. Grade improvements can be expensive. Solutions may not be simple.
Our pledge to you is to continue to ask questions about every aspect of the investigation and report to you.
That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to email@example.com.
