University of North Alabama sues school system to block bid

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - The University of North Alabama is taking its dispute with the Florence school system over stadium access to court.

Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Gil Self granted the university a temporary restraining order Tuesday, the Times-Daily reports (http://bit.ly/2nfzHWw) blocking the city school system from accepting a bid to build a new middle school.

The university says the school would block access to city-owned Braly Stadium, where UNA plays football games.

The city, university and schools have been in talks over creating room between the building and the stadium, as well as adding up to 900 parking places.

Self set the matter for hearing March 17, the same day the restraining order expires.

Interim Superintendent Connie Wallace says the school system faces a March 24 deadline to accept the bid.
