BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Victoria Vivians did it again. For the third consecutive year the Mississippi State standout was named the winner of the C Spire Gillom Trophy, named after the top women's basketball player in the state. Victoria becomes the first ever three-time winner of the Gillom Trophy in its ten year history.
The junior from Carthage, Mississippi beat out Lady Bulldogs teammate Morgan William and Brittany Dinkins of Southern Miss for the 2017 honor. She averaged 16 points and 4 rebounds per game.
For the fifth straight year a player from Ole Miss was named the 2017 C Spire Howell Trophy winner, named for the most outstanding men's college basketball player in the state. Sebastion Saiz, a senior from Spain, netted 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. The other finalists were Devin Schmidt of Delta State and Quinndary Weatherspoon of Mississippi State.
