Bond set for elementary school secretary accused of embezzlement

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The Jackson County School District employee accused of embezzling money from the St. Martin Gridiron Club was in court Monday afternoon.

A judge set Melanie Pankonin’s bond at $5,000. She is accused of stealing between $10,000 to $15,000 and merchandise from the club.

Officials said Pankonin, 37, served as vice president of the non-profit organization, which was raising money for the St. Martin High School football team. 

According to investigators, Pankonin worked as a secretary at St. Martin Upper Elementary. The investigation is ongoing.
