Suspect arrested following Jackson County police chase

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - One person is in custody following a police chase through part of Jackson County Friday night.

Jackson County Sheriff's deputies say they responded to a call about a wanted person in the area near Jim Ramsey and Old Ft. Bayou. The suspect - James Payne - drove off in his vehicle and a chase ensued. Authorities say they don't believe Payne ever exceeded 60 miles per hour. Payne turned off on a walking trail and got stuck. He was then arrested without incident.

Payne, 29, was wanted for charges including possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and grand larceny. He is also now facing new charges, including resisting arrest and failure to yield to blue lights/sirens.

He is being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center, where is waiting for a bond to be set.
