'GMA' highlights Pass Christian businesses

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Big time national exposure for two women-owned small businesses in Pass Christian on Thursday. "Good Morning America" turned the spotlight on Pass Christian Soap Company and Robin's Nest Gift Shop.

Millions of viewers heard about a new product line from Pass Christian Soap Company on the "Good Morning America" Steals and Deals segment. Back home, Pass Soap owner Paula Lindsay saw an immediate impact from the publicity.

"I think this morning alone we're well over $4,000 orders, and it's still going on," said Lindsay.

"GMA" star Robin Roberts is always on a mission to promote her hometown. At the soap manufacturing facility, the staff is working overtime to meet the demand that is sure to come from the "Good Morning America" feature.

"It is a huge boost, because now we have all of these brand new customers. We have a lot of return customers, but we also get an influx of brand new customers that we can market to in the future. It's a win win," Lindsay said.

Roberts' sister, Dorothy McEwen, owns Robin's Nest. Part of Thursday's exciting news was the unveiling of a new line called the Lucimarian Collection, dedicated to Robin and Dorothy's mother.

Pass Christian Soap Company was a natural for this product, because the late Lucimarian Roberts enjoyed the products and told her daughters about it.

"Her mother used to come into our factory, and she would get our products and tell us how much she loved them. I said, 'We should do a line in her honor,'" said Lindsay.
