SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Insured damages from tornadoes that struck the Hattiesburg and Petal area in January could reach $100 million. So far, insurance companies are paying out tens of millions of dollars in claims. And the federal government is stepping in with grants and loans.
But there are still plenty of people who still need help. There is an estimated $50 million in uninsured losses.
Fortunately the donations to Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation continue to flow in from people across Mississippi so far raising almost half a million dollars.
Thank you for all who helped and continue to help our neighbors. It is great to see the willingness of South Mississippians to lend a helping hand.
