HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Mardi Gras floats headed back to New Orleans are causing a traffic jam on westbound Interstate 10 in Hancock County.
The floats that rolled in Saturday's Krewe of Neptune parade began their slow journey back to New Orleans Monday morning when one broke down just east of Highway 607, near the state line. If you have to travel on that section of I-10, be aware that traffic is backing up due to the incident.
Harrison County Sheriff's deputies are escorting the floats in the left lane of the interstate. That's a requirement since they can't block traffic merging onto the interstate. The floats can only travel at a top speed of 20 mph.
