PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - While the 87th St. Paul Carnival Association parade was in high gear early in the route, residents toward the tail end had to find something to keep them busy.
It's the 25th year the Zeller family has thrown a celebration at their Second Street home.
"When we bought this on the route, we decided, 'Hey, let's have a party,'" said Bob Zeller. "And it's growing bigger and bigger and bigger every year."
The anniversary is official because there's a book spanning the entire experience with five generations as witnesses.
"Our kids grew up," said Linda Zeller. "Had kids, and then their kids are having kids so the party keeps growing and growing."
Daughter Tina Dupree, who organized the special day, bought into it a long time ago.
"Absolutely, it's great. I love it. I wouldn't expect anything less from them," said Dupree.
Down the street, the beauty queens were practicing their best poses at Elizabeth and Calvin Ishee's home. They just moved back a week ago and headed right into party mode.
"I'm looking forward to being back in Pass Christian and Mardi Gras is the perfect celebration," Elizabeth said.
Friend and former tenant Barbara Medlock developed the themed part of the celebration.
"I lived here for three years and the first Mardi Gras I said, 'Let's do tutus.' So, it was tutu Mardi Gras," said Medlock. "Then every year we have a different theme and this year, we're queens. Let the good times roll."
And it did, with 80 units rolling through and plenty of excitement and beads along every part of the route. This year's theme was Pass Beyond the Galaxies: And Outer Space Adventure.
"It's such a beautiful day and it's lovely to see," Ishee said. "Just the town is so fantastic and everyone's happy."
King Christian was Donald Rafferty, and Queen Christiana was Dawn Sessum LaMarca.
