(RNN) - Witches around the U.S. gathered late Friday night to cast a mass spell to bind Donald Trump.

A group of witches even gathered outside of Trump Tower in New York to cast the spell on the president.

This is just the first of many rituals that are planned to occur at midnight every waning crescent moon from here on.

"You're a liar, you're on fire, you're fired," the witches exclaimed during a ritual that was broadcast on Facebook Live.

Singer Lana Del Ray also became a part of the gathering by announcing her support via Twitter.

The Facebook event referred to the spell instructions posted on ExtraNewsfeed. It involved a number of prompts, including an unflattering photo of the president and a tower Tarot card.

Someecards, a humor site and greeting card generator, wrote a tongue-in-cheek account of the mass spell, referencing the Disney movie Hocus Pocus.

"Will it work? Honestly, there is only one way to find out," April Lavalle of Someecards said. "But hey, you watch didn't Hocus Pocus a million times for nothing, so here is how to cast a spell on Donald Trump."

The magical Facebook event has drawn the ire of a Christian Right group.

Kevin Ambrose of the Christian Nationalist Alliance, a Christian group that leans to the right, isn't laughing, and citing the Someecards story, he urged Christians to mount a counter-ritual - prayer - for what it sees as a threat against Trump.

"The closer we come to reclaiming this land from the hands of the godless the more agitated and irrational the Left becomes," Ambrose wrote. "This ritual is an extension of the riots and physical assaults which have plagued the U.S. since the election. It all stems from the same spiritual sickness."

However, Michael M. Hughes, who posted the spell instructions, thinks the spell can be a useful exercise.

"Several people have noted it can be viewed as more of a mass art/consciousness-raising project (similar to the 1967 exorcism and levitation of the Pentagon), than an actual magical working. But many are clearly taking it very seriously."

The spell instructions noted that binding spells are not meant to harm but to keep the subject of the spell from causing harm: "In other words, this is not the equivalent of magically punching a Nazi; rather, it is ripping the bullhorn from his hands, smashing his phone so he can’t tweet, tying him up, and throwing him in a dark basement where he can’t hurt anyone."

In 1967, anti-war activists Allen Ginsburg and Abbie Hoffman helped organize an exorcism of the Pentagon, which drew thousands.

Organizers wanted to gather protesters to levitate the Pentagon 300 feet in the air, according to Levitating the Pentagon: Exorcism as Politics, Politics as Exorcism, by Joseph P. Laycock.

According to Laycock, Hoffman then anticipate,: "The Pentagon would then turn orange and spin, expelling its demons and ending the Vietnam War."

It didn't work.
