West Harrison head coach Tommy Searight and his Hurricanes are getting ready for their next challenge on the road, the Laurel Golden Tornadoes, a team that has won 15 of their last 16 games.
West Harrison polished off Jackson Wingfield 53-37 Tuesday night in the first-round of the Class 5A State Playoffs and are looking to upset Laurel beginning Saturday night at 7.
Despite winning only 8 games, the Canes have picked up momentum... the past two weeks. What's been the difference maker?
"Our senior leadership with Quieran Gray and Will Roberts, "said Searight. "The really took on the leadership role of being accountable and really paying attention to detail."
Roberts said, "We're executing better, but we've got to keep working, got to say disciplined and we've got to believe we can win."
"We've coming together, "stated Gray. "Everybody realizes we can't do it by ourselves. So, we're just coming together as a brotherhood and it's really working out for us."
Just like the Gulfport Admirals in traveling to No. 1 ranked Meridian, the Hurricanes face a stern test on the home court of Laurel. The Golden Tornadoes only loss over the past 16 games was an 88-75 setback to Meridian in late January.
