VANCLEAVE, MS (WLOX) -

Under head coach Robert Johnson, Vancleave has scratched and clawed its way under the win column in recent weeks; making a loud statement.

Before Jan. 31, the Bulldogs' record stood at 15 wins and 11 losses.

Heading into the second-round of the Class 4A State playoffs following a 41-36 victory over Lawrence County. Vanderbilt carries a 21 and 11 record, having won 6 of their last 7 games.

Coach Johnson said, "They come through everyday, excited about playing. Excited about working hard. Excited about doing things different. They just put forth the best effort possible."

Two players average in double-digits offensively, Trevor Davis and Jonathan Knight. Davis says Coach Johnson is the key in building a successful basketball team.

"We bought into his system," stated Davis. "We bought into it and work hard every single day and come out with a win."

Kylan Johnson added, "We're working hard in practice every day, putting in that work, trying to get better as a team."
