BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - In the Class 6A ranks, the Gulfport Admirals took care of business by pulling away from Terry 66-55 in a first-round elimination game at Bert Jenkins Gymnasium. Oliver McDowell drilled seven three-point buckets in the first half and closed out with 23 points to lead the Admirals.
Miles Daniels continued his steady play for Gulfport. He netted 17 points. Chad Crenshaw has picked up his pace of late and bagged 14 points. Gulfport advances to face top-ranked Meridian Saturday night on the road at 7 p.m. Coach Owen Miller is confident his Admirals can get the job done, but admits it won't be easy. It will take their best performance of the season to pull off an upset.
Three other coast teams in the Class 6A ranks were all eliminated from the title chase. Forest Hill beat Biloxi 37-28. Oak Grove knocked-off St. Martin 71-63 and Brandon bounced Ocean Springs 70-30.
West Harrison defeated Jackson Wingfield on the home court Tuesday night to advance in the Class 5A ranks. The Hurricanes travel to Laurel 7 p.m. Saturday. Jackson Provine eliminated Pascagoula 73-58 and will travel to Picayune 7 p.m. Saturday. The Maroon Tide received a first-round bye after winning the Region 7-5A title. In one other Class 5A game, Wayne County defeated Stone 86-66. The War Eagles travel to Gautier 7 p.m. Saturday night. The Gators received a first-round bye after claiming the Region 8-5A Tournament Championship.
The Bay High Tigers continued their winning ways Tuesday night with a decisive 62-41 victory over South Pike. Bay High will face Northeast Lauderdale on
Saturday. Northeast Lauderdale defeated Forrest County AHS 68-49. Newton County beat Poplarville 52-49.
The Vancleave Bulldogs shocked Lawrence County 41-36. Vancleave will travel to Mendenhall on Saturday. Mendenhall eliminated Purvis 60-39.
In the Class 3A ranks, Morton defeated St. Patrick 88-51.
