BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Coach Randy McCrory guided the Bay High Tigers to Region 8-4A regular season title and have the talent to make a run at the state championship.
Who is Coach McCrory? "I'm originally from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, grew up there, "said McCrory. "I started off playing my first two years at Southeastern Louisiana under Billy Kennedy. He's now the head coach at Texas A&M. I transferred to William Carey, played for coach Steve Knight. He's a big factor in impacting my life into becoming a coach."
McCrory said when he was in college he didn't have any aspirations of becoming a basketball coach.
"I got a degree in accounting at Carey, "stated McCrory. I didn't know that I wanted to coach until Coach Knight spoke with me. I became a grad assistant under Knight and he talked me into it. He also had me meet with Oak Grove football coach Nevil Barr. He sat me down and I told him I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and he said, I think you'll be a good coach. If it wasn't for coach Barr I probably wouldn't be into coaching."
McCrory has spent nearly a decade at Bay High.
"I've been here nine years at the Bay, "McCrory said. " I was an assistant coach under Coach Kelton Thompson. He had a great work ethic and he taught me a lot about basketball. I try to carry a tradition that he left off."
Coach McCrory knows it takes teamwork to win championships and his Bay High Tigers will try to bring back the Golden Ball to Bay St. Louis. The Tigers captured the 2010 State Title under Coach Thompson.
McCrory said, "I talk more about championship players. You've got to be that first before a championship team."
