Man Shot Dead By Pascagoula Officer

A man is dead  after a shooting involving a Pascagoula police officer.  It took place at the King's Inn at the intersection of Highway 90 and 14th street in Pascagoula.

According to police, the shooting took place around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when the man confronted an officer with a SKS assault rifle. The officer told to man to drop the rifle. When he didn't, the officer fired three rounds at the man.

The 63 year old white man was taken to Singing River Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy is being done today.

The officer who fired the fatal bullet has not been identified, but was placed on administrative leave for now.
