First-Round of the Girls State High School basketball playoffs

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Harrison Central captured the Region 8-6A title last week, St. Martin won the Region 7-6A championship and Pascagoula won the Region 5A title and all earned a first-round bye in the state playoffs which tipped off Monday night.

Class 6A ranks, Biloxi pulled away from Pearl midway through the final period and  the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Pirates 54-41.  Biloxi will travel to Oak Grove on Friday.  The Gulfport Lady Admirals traveled to Terry and the home team defeated Gulfport 48-41.  Ocean Springs hosted Meridian and the Lady Greyhounds ousted the Lady Wildcats from the state championship hunt with a 37-25 decision.  Brandon had no problem with D'Iberville and posted a decisive 63-33 victory.

Class 5A girls, Brookhaven knocked off West Harrison 75-66. Laurel defeated Stone 68-54.  South Jones picked off Picayune 52-46 and Jackson Provine eliminated Gautier 46-30.

Class 4A ranks, the Pass Christian Lady Pirates advanced with a 54-43 win over Lawrence County.  Bay High also prevailed taking out Richland 58-35. Northeast Jones beat Poplarville 55-43 and South Pike over Moss Point 51-44.  East Central traveled to McComb and the Lady Hornets got stung 64-29.

Class 3A ranks, St. Andrews eliminated St. Patrick 53-41.

The boys take center stage Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Class 4A: South Pike @ Bay, Lawrence County @ Vancleave, Moss Point @ Florence, Newton Co. @ Poplarville & Pass Christian @ McComb

Class 3A: St. Patrick @ Morton
