JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Federal agencies will be burning brush Monday in two areas of Jackson County.
The larger of the prescribed burns will be in the northwest corner of the county in the area of Old Biloxi Rd., CC Rd., and Indian Fork Rd. The U.S. Forest Service will be burning more than 1,000 acres in that area.
District fire management officer Jay Boykin said smoke could be seen from Hwy. 15 near Bethel Rd. A helicopter will be assisting firefighters on the ground during the burn.
Another prescribed burn in the Mississippi Sandhill Crane Refuge will be overseen by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This burn is much smaller and will only cover 90 acres.
