HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A crash on the interstate in Hancock County is causing major traffic delays near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line. According to a tweet from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a vehicle ran off the road, driving through the Mississippi Department of Transportation weigh station. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes, heading into Louisiana.
MDOT says the delays could last until 2:30 p.m. Mississippi Highway Patrol currently has troopers on the scene, working the crash.
According to MHP, the accident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. when a 2003 Infinity Q45 driven by a 74-year old Pensacola man swerved off the north side of the roadway. Officials say the front of his vehicle collided with the southeast side of the MDOT weigh station. The driver told police that he was diabetic and had not eaten today and must have blacked out. No one was injured in the single-vehicle accident.
Coast Electric and West Hancock Fire Department also responded to the scene.
