    Talk of developing a casino resort in Diamondhead has been a burning issue for several years. Two different proposals have come and gone. A casino site rejected by the Mississippi Gaming Commission in 2014 is back on the table.

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

The Mississippi Gaming Commission is considering site approval for two proposed casino projects that have been rejected in the past. That meeting is going on right now at D’Iberville City Hall.

Commissioners have spent the morning listening to opponents and proponents of the two projects. One proposed casino site is near the intersection of Hwy. 90 and Veterans Ave. in Biloxi. The other is in Diamondhead.

The commission unanimously rejected RW Development’s South Beach project for Biloxi in 2008, claiming the company did not have control of the land to the water’s edge. The company’s attorney said gaming laws only require control of the land to the mean high water line.

The proposed Jacobs Entertainment project for Diamondhead met a similar fate in 2014 when commissioners said the land south of the interstate and west of the yacht club was not a legal gaming site.

Both developers hope commissioners will see things different this time, but a decision will not be made today.

Alan Godfrey, executive director of the gaming commission, will take everything he hears today into consideration and make a recommendation next month. Commissioners could vote on the proposals at their next meeting on March 16.
