A military panel tonight is deliberating the fate of Captain John Buck. The Keesler Captain is awaiting his fate after disobeying an order to take the anthrax vaccine. The emergency room physician refused to take the shot last year because he fears it is unsafe.
Around five this evening, the military panel that will decide Buck's fate began their deliberations. In closing arguments, military prosecutors argued that Captain Buck tried to undermine the command structure of the military and that an appropriate punishment includes dismissing Buck from the military.
The prosectors did not suggest jail time for Buck, although by law, he could be sentenced to as many as five years in jail. Buck's attorney says the confinement would serve no purpose, and he feels dismissal is excessive.
